Founded in 1949, Dalian University of Technology (hereinafter referred to as “DUT”) is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of China. It is also one of the national 211 Project and 985 Project universities. In September 2017, approved by the State Council, DUT was selected into the “World-class University Construction Plan”, category A.

The university has around 4500 faculty members, including roughly 3000 full-time teachers. It has 15 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. DUT currently enrolls over 50000 students in total, consisting of more than 25500 undergraduates and over 24700 postgraduates. Among postgraduates, there are over 6500 doctoral students and more than 18100 master's students. 

DUT keeps the education of talents as its primary mission and attaches equal importance to undergraduate and graduate programs. It has formed a multi-disciplinary system which focuses on science and engineering and coordinates science, engineering, economics, management, humanities, law, philosophy and art. The university runs a graduate school. The main campus comprises 29 schools, 1 faculty of medicine, 2 research institutes and 1 college of liberal education. The Development Zone campus has 3 schools and the Panjin campus has 4 schools. There are also 2 specialized schools focusing on innovation and international education, plus one independent college.

DUT is promotes internationalization in all aspects, including teaching, faculty, talent cultivation, scientific research, and organizational management. It has now established long-term stable collaboration with 350 universities and research institutions in 48 countries and regions. The university has established 3 Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions, and 1 Sino-foreign cooperative education program. The university selects over 2500 students and faculty members to go abroad for academic exchanges and invites nearly 2000 long-term and short-term overseas experts and scholars to work or visit the university.

At present, DUT continues to adhere to the fundamental task of setting high moral values and cultivating people, keep the primary mission of educating talents, deepen the comprehensive reform, strengthen characteristics of connotation, and strive to build a world-class university with Chinese characteristics.
