On July 17, the 6th DUT-BSU International Summer Camp came to a successful close at Dalian University of Technology after a two-week programme. Co-hosted by DBJI of DUT and BSU-DUT Joint Institute of Belarusian State University (“BSU”), the event brought 27 teachers and students from BSU to China for study tours. Grounded in the education philosophy of integrating industry-university-research-innovation resources, the summer camp built a four-dimensional study framework covering academic learning, language training, cultural experience and innovation practice. Through immersive and diversified exchange activities, it created a high-quality platform for Chinese and Belarusian youth to learn from one another, collaborate in science and innovation, and exchange cultures, further advancing the new landscape of international talent-training cooperation between the two universities.

The summer camp officially kicked off on July 6. Ji Shunying, Dean of DBJI, and Liudmila Liashenka, Dean of BSU-DUT Joint Institute, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. Ji Shunying extended a warm welcome to visiting teachers and students from Belarusian State University. He encouraged Chinese and Belarusian young people to communicate sincerely, learn from each other and forge profound international friendship as “China-Belarus classmates”. Liudmila Liashenka encouraged students from BSU to take an active part in various study-tour activities, experience Chinese culture and discover the features of Dalian through hands-on practice.

Building a Solid Foundation through Study: Advancing Academic Exchange and Joint Talent Cultivation
During the summer camp, all activities were carried out in an orderly manner and achieved remarkable results. In terms of academic studies, the camp launched the "Schoolfellow Friendship" initiative. Visiting students from Belarusian State University and students of the DBJI jointly attended specialized courses in Engineering Mechanics, Condensed Matter Physics and World Economy. Students from both universities took classes together to consolidate their academic foundations. After class, teachers and students visited on-campus laboratories, gaining first-hand insights into the construction of the university’s research platforms, instrument and equipment configuration and ongoing scientific research. They experienced the strong research atmosphere and solid disciplinary strength of Dalian University of Technology.

Empowering Language Learning: Breaking Barriers to Cross-Cultural Communication
The language training session adheres to the principle of teaching students in accordance with their aptitude. Customized teaching is delivered based on Belarusian students’ existing Chinese proficiency, focusing on improving their comprehensive abilities in Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing, and tackling difficult points in language learning in a targeted manner. Through systematic and scenario-based training, the program effectively helps students break down barriers in verbal communication and consolidate their foundation for daily Chinese conversation, laying a solid linguistic foundation for their subsequent cross-cultural learning, exchanges and cooperation.

Immersive Cultural Experiences: Building Bridges for China-Foreign Cultural Integration
To foster deeper cultural integration, the summer camp featured a rich array of cultural-experience activities that allowed participants to appreciate the charm of traditional Chinese culture through immersive hands-on practice. Students visited Dalian Museum, the Urban Planning Centre and the Donggou Wufang Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience Base, where they learned about Dalian’s urban development, cultural heritage and local characteristics. They also took part in intangible-cultural-heritage workshops including tofu-making, hair-ornament crafting, tie-dye, Ebru paper-marbling and pottery-making, and joined in folk activities such as calligraphy creation and dumpling-making. Through hands-on practice and mutual engagement, Chinese and foreign students gained in-depth exposure to the unique appeal of fine traditional Chinese culture, building bridges for cultural exchange and heartfelt friendship.

Joint Science-Innovation Endeavours: Deepening Inter-University Collaborative Innovation Education
This summer camp focused on innovation-driven education and promoting learning through competition. Taking innovation practice as a core educational component and using the China International College Students' Innovation Competition as a platform, it made every effort to temper students' capabilities in scientific and technological innovation practice and collaborative research. The event encouraged Chinese and Belarusian students to form teams freely and complement each other's strengths, ultimately establishing 15 China-Belarus joint innovation teams to prepare for the competition together. Relying on the distinctive disciplinary resources of both universities and combining their respective professional strengths through cross-disciplinary integration and joint research, each team effectively promoted interdisciplinary integration and innovation resource sharing between the two universities, earnestly implemented the concept of collaborative education integrating industry, academia, research, and innovation, and deepened the substance of scientific and technological innovation cooperation between the two universities.

At the closing ceremony, Liudmila Liashenka, Dean of the BSU-DUT Joint Institute, and Wu Heng, Chinese-side head of the BSU-DUT Joint Institute, delivered speeches respectively, reviewing the wonderful activities and fruitful achievements during the summer camp. Subsequently, an award ceremony was held for DBJI 2026 China International College Students' Innovation Competition Preliminary Selection, recognizing the outstanding joint innovation teams. All camp participants received summer camp completion certificates, bringing this unforgettable study and research journey to a successful conclusion.
The successful holding of this summer camp effectively enhanced the exchanges and friendship between Chinese and Belarusian youth, and enriched students' international study and research practice experience. At the same time, the event further deepened the substance of cooperation between the two universities, consolidated the foundation for their collaboration in education, cultural exchange, and scientific and technological innovation, and accumulated solid practical results for the university's international talent cultivation and China-foreign cooperation and exchange efforts.
