To comprehensively deepen the international cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and promote scientific research and innovation collaboration between China and Belarus, on November 28, 2023, DUT-BSU Joint Institute 2023 Academic Annual Conference was successfully held in the multi-functional hall of Bochuan Library. The theme of this conference is "Strengthening International Scientific and Technological Innovation Cooperation and Promoting the Coordinated Development of Teaching and Research". Seventeen experts in the fields of mechanics and physics from Dalian University of Technology (DUT) and Belarusian State University (BSU) were invited to deliver academic reports. The conference attracted a crowd of over 50 participants. Ji Shunying, the Director of DUT-BSU Joint Institute, Sergei Bosiakov, the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of BSU, Mikhail Tivanov, the Dean of the Faculty of Physics, Gao Junfeng, the Vice-Director of DUT-BSU Joint Institute, Denis Marmysh, also the Vice-Director of DUT-BSU Joint Institute, Zheng Yonggang, the Vice-Dean of the School of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering, as well as relevant scholars from the two universities attended this meeting. The opening ceremony was presided over by Guo Shuhong, the Vice-Director of the DUT-BSU Joint Institute.

At the beginning of the conference, Director Ji Shunying, Dean Sergei Bosiakov, and Dean Mikhail Tivanov delivered opening speeches respectively. Ji Shunying first affirmed the gratifying achievements made in the seven-year joint education program between DUT and BSU. He sincerely thanked the experts and scholars who have made outstanding contributions to the China-Belarus scientific research cooperation over the years. He also summarized the important measures taken by the DUT-BSU Joint Institute in recent years to further promote scientific research cooperation and exchanges between the two countries, and looked forward to the deepening of scientific research cooperation between the two countries in the future, the continuous building of high-level joint research teams, and the joint promotion of the Belt and Road Initiative. Dean Sergei Bosiakov and Dean Mikhail Tivanov were delighted with the fruitful results achieved in the deepening of cooperation between China and Belarus. They stated that the Belarusian State University will continue to fully support the cooperation in talent cultivation, discipline construction, academic exchanges between the two universities, and will work with DUT to build a higher-level academic exchange and cooperation platform in the future.

The keynote speech session was chaired by Denis Marmysh, the Vice-Dean of DUT-BSU Joint Institute. Gao Junfeng, Sergei Bosiakov, Wang Yuefang, and Vitaly Ksenevich from the two universities respectively delivered keynote speeches titled “Simulation and enhanced design of nonlinear optical properties of two-dimensional crystals”, “Mandible Response on Masticatory Loads Applied to Full-Arch Prosthesis: Finite Element Modelling”, "Interval Analysis For Periodic Systems Through Harmonic Balance Method and Kriging-based Model Approximation", and “Fabrication, Electrical and Photoconductivity of SWCNT/WS2-NT Hybrid Films”.

After the opening ceremony, the conference was split into two parallel sessions, namely the Mechanics Session and the Physics Session, where academic reports were delivered and discussions were held simultaneously. The contents of the reports covered the research hotspots and emerging frontiers in the fields of mechanics and physics. While enhancing the mutual understanding of the research topics between the Chinese and Belarusian teachers and students, it further broadened their academic research horizons, strengthened the exchanges and mutual learning between the two sides, and laid a solid foundation for deeper academic cooperation and scientific research in the future.

At the conference, teachers and students actively raised questions, engaged in in-depth discussions with the report presenters, and carried out extensive exchanges concerning the cutting-edge issues within their research fields.

The DUT-BSU Joint Institute places high emphasis on the cooperative development of Chinese and Belarusian scholars in areas such as discipline construction, talent cultivation, and technological innovation. It is dedicated to erecting a high-caliber platform for academic cooperation and exchanges between scholars of the two countries. It focuses on gathering diverse resources for integrated innovation, thus achieving sharing and mutual learning. This annual academic conference is not only an important bridge for upgrading the quality of China-Belarus cooperation, but also a crucial link in promoting the high-quality development of Chinese-foreign cooperative education, as well as achieving the internationalization of talent cultivation and scientific research cooperation. Standing at the new milestone marking the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative, the Institute is committed to furthering collaboration with the Belarusian partners, synergizing scientific and technological innovation, creating a new model of international educational cooperation, providing strong support for the national strategic needs, and continuously making new achievements in promoting the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
