The Inaugural Batch of Master's Students from DUT-BSU Joint Institute Successfully Complete Thesis Defense for Master's Degree

2025-06-13

From May 30 to June 12, 2025, DBJI successfully concluded the thesis defense for its 2025 graduates of master's students. As DBJI's inaugural batch of master’s students, all 25 candidates, specializing in Engineering Mechanics, Condensed Matter Physics, and Optical Engineering, successfully passed the thesis defenses organized separately by Dalian University of Technology (DUT) and Belarusian State University (BSU). This milestone marks a significant achievement in DBJI's mission to cultivate high-level international talents.

To ensure academic rigor, the defense process adhered strictly to the degree-awarding standards of both universities and the requirements of their collaborative education agreement. All theses underwent a three-tier review system: internal expert evaluation, double-blind external review, and academic integrity checks (plagiarism detection), laying a solid foundation for the formal defenses.

Dual-University Collaboration with Parallel Review

Each student participated in independent defenses organized by both universities, undergoing comprehensive evaluations and in-depth discussions by review committees from China and Belarus. This dual-review mechanism ensured rigorous academic scrutiny.

Integrated Innovation with Unified Standards

Defense committees comprised senior professors from both universities, implementing strict avoidance rules to maintain objectivity. The evaluations focused on students' research innovation capabilities, global perspectives, and ability to solve complex scientific problems.

Seamless Onsite - Virtual Coordination

Experts from BSU participated in online defenses remotely, enabling "zero-distance" academic review across borders. This hybrid model bridged geographical gaps and fostered real-time academic exchange.

The inaugural batch of master's students demonstrated solid professional foundations, excellent research literacy, and fluent bilingual communication skills during the defenses. Their research covered cutting-edge fields including advanced materials and structures, plasma technology and applications, optical sensing and detection, and intelligent systems in computational physics, receiving favourable comments from reviewers. All candidates successfully passed the defenses of both universities.

The successful completion of these thesis defenses represents a critical milestone in postgraduate education and the final checkpoint for ensuring degree quality. The achievement of the first graduating class validates DBJI's international talent cultivation model and educational quality, laying a solid foundation for deepening scientific cooperation and high-level talent development in the future.
